Die Wanicare Foundation ist eine auf Naturschutz fokussierte Organisation, die Wildtierrettung, Rehabilitation und Bildung in Indonesien unterstützt. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Cikananga Wildlife Center in West-Java arbeitet die Stiftung in einem Kontext, in dem Bewusstsein, Vertrauen und klare Kommunikation entscheidend sind, um langfristige Naturschutzbemühungen voranzutreiben.

Wanicare focuses on animal welfare in Indonesia, where their work is crucial for the protection and conservation of endangered species. At Kruso, we decided to develop their website pro bono to support their mission. The goal was to create the most sustainable website in the Netherlands. Every decision, from web hosting and UX design to project management, was made with the environment in mind. The result is a new version that emits 67% less CO2 per page view compared to the old site.

Wanicare Foundation
Wanicare operates within the wildlife conservation sector, primarily supporting the Cikananga Wildlife Center in West Java, Indonesia. The foundation focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating wild animals from illegal trade and habitat destruction, while also promoting conservation education.
Wanicare's existing website was outdated, lacked mobile functionality, and had no SEO optimization. Additionally, as a conservation-focused organization, Wanicare was acutely aware of the environmental impact of its digital presence and sought to minimize its carbon footprint.

Ehrlich gesagt hatte die bisherige Website von Wanicare ihr Haltbarkeitsdatum längst überschritten: eingeschränkte Funktionen auf dem Smartphone, eine wuchernde Zahl von Unterseiten und überhaupt kein SEO. Trotzdem war selbst eine gewöhnliche Überarbeitung eine Herausforderung. Als kleine gemeinnützige Organisation haben wir keine großen Budgets, und uns ist sehr bewusst, dass unsere Präsenz in der digitalen Welt Folgen für die Umwelt hat, weil jeder Seitenaufruf CO2-Emissionen verursacht. Das wirkt klein, aber in der täglichen Nutzung ist das Internet keineswegs unerheblich, und im Sinne der Mission von Wanicare, die Natur zu bewahren, hielten wir es für richtig, das anzugehen. Mit Anouk Maat, die das Geschäft für Kruso in den Niederlanden aufgebaut hat und 2015 selbst Cikananga besucht hatte, kamen wir ins Gespräch über einen passenden und zugleich ehrgeizigen Plan für eine besonders ressourcenschonende Website.

Die Unterstützung und das Wissen einer Organisation wie Kruso sind für uns unglaublich wertvoll, denn unsere Präsenz in der digitalen Welt ist wichtig, um von Menschen und Organisationen wahrgenommen zu werden, die uns unterstützen und besser verstehen wollen, was wir tun. Dazu muss man wissen: Wanicare und Cikananga arbeiten mit einem sehr bescheidenen Budget, und wir hatten das Glück, feste Partnerschaften mit vielen anderen NGOs, lokalen Behörden, privaten Förderern und weiteren Beteiligten zu haben. Für uns ist Kruso ein großartiges Beispiel für eine Organisation, die daran glaubt, dass wir eine bessere Welt hinterlassen können, in der gewinnorientierte und gemeinnützige Organisationen einander dabei unterstützen.
