Volvo Car Retail Solutions supports retailers and partners across Volvo’s retail ecosystem with digital tools and services designed to simplify daily operations and strengthen collaboration. As the platform landscape evolved, the organisation needed a more scalable and governable foundation that could support growth, security requirements and a more consistent user experience across markets.

As Volvo Car Retail Solutions continued to grow its digital retail ecosystem, the existing platform became increasingly difficult to scale, maintain and govern. Manual user administration, legacy dependencies and fragmented access management created unnecessary complexity for both retailers and internal teams. A full rebuild in Umbraco 17 established a more stable and upgradeable foundation - aligned with Volvo Cars’ new visual identity and integrated with the organisation’s existing authentication infrastructure. The result is a more seamless and secure platform experience, designed to support long-term operational continuity and future development.

Creating a platform ready for growth
Volvo Car Retail Solutions relied on an older platform that had become increasingly difficult to scale and maintain as the organisation’s digital ecosystem evolved. New functionality was harder to implement, dependencies created technical limitations, and maintaining a consistent user experience across the platform required growing operational effort.
User and permission management also relied heavily on manual administration, while authentication was not fully aligned with Volvo’s existing systems and governance requirements. At the same time, Volvo Cars’ updated visual identity highlighted the gap between the existing platform experience and the expectations for a modern retail ecosystem.

Rebuilding the foundation in Umbraco 17
The platform was rebuilt from the ground up in Umbraco 17 to create a more stable, maintainable and future-ready foundation. By removing dependencies on legacy packages and establishing a custom architecture, the solution became easier to govern, upgrade and extend over time.
Integration with Volvo’s Single Sign-On infrastructure centralised the management of users, roles and permissions within existing organisational systems. This reduced manual administration while improving both security and operational continuity.
The rebuild also introduced updated structures, components and design patterns aligned with Volvo Cars’ new visual identity. In parallel, personalised content capabilities made it possible to create more relevant experiences for different retailers and user groups.

The new setup simplifies administration, strengthens security and creates a more seamless experience for both retailers and internal teams. At the same time, the platform provides a more stable foundation for future development - aligned with both organisational governance requirements and Umbraco’s long-term roadmap.
