Copenhagen Municipality is Denmark’s largest workplace, with more than 45,000 employees working across a wide range of public functions. In an organisation of that scale, internal communication is critical, and the intranet plays a central role in supporting everyday work, coordination, and access to information across the municipality.

At Denmark's largest workplace, more than 45,000 employees show up every day to work on improving the daily lives of Copenhagen’s citizens. Copenhagen Municipality spans a wide range of functions but consolidates all internal communication on their intranet. Therefore, the platform is an essential tool in employees' everyday work.

The Hub for All Communication

At Copenhagen Municipality, the intranet is a vital platform for daily operations and serves as the central hub for communication among 45,000 employees.

That’s why it is especially important that the platform is easy to use, regardless of the user's digital skills and abilities.

Co-Creation That Enhances the User Experience

With users from different levels and areas of work, we chose to involve them directly in the design of the intranet. Through intensive workshops, the design was created via co-creation between Kruso’s UX experts and the actual users of the platform.

In this way, the project entered a spiral of idea development, prototyping, and user testing – and the shared input opened new doors for everyone involved.

Further Development of the Existing Design System

Although Copenhagen Municipality’s visual design and module library were already defined within a large design system, it was necessary to develop new components to meet the users’ needs.

Therefore, we created new modules that align with the existing design system but open up new user experiences that were not previously possible.

The new design and user journeys provide clarity and structure, giving employees the most important information right from the start and allowing them to quickly and easily proceed with their tasks.
